The Webasto Live is configured through a web page inside the charger, and every password you need is printed in the manual that came with the unit. Find that manual before you start. Seriously: if it's lost, Webasto takes around two weeks to send a replacement, and nothing here works without it.

Before you start, check you have

  • The Webasto manual, for the hotspot and portal passwords
  • A phone or laptop with Wi-Fi
  • Your Wi-Fi name and password
  • About 25 minutes

1Add the charger in your GuestCharge dashboard

Run the onboarding wizard. The Live identifies itself by the numbers only from its ChargeBox identity, which you'll see in step 4, so use the numeric part of the serial.

2Join the charger's hotspot

The charger broadcasts a Wi-Fi network named Webasto!Live followed by a string of numbers. Join it using the WLAN password from the manual.

3Open the configuration portal

In a browser, go to 172.20.0.1 and log in with the portal password from the manual.

4Get the charger online

Click Network and enter your property's Wi-Fi name and password. Double-check both: a typo here is the most common cause of a charger that never comes online. (Ethernet works too, and a 4G SIM is possible via Webasto if needed.)

5Enter the GuestCharge settings

Click Backend and fill in:

  • Connection type: WLAN
  • OCPP ChargeBoxIdentity (ChargePointID): delete any letters or symbols so only the numbers remain, and check it matches your wizard entry
  • WebSockets JSON OCPP URL of the Backend: wss://ocpp.guestcharge.co/ followed by that same numeric identity

Click Save.

6Check the authorisation settings

Go to Authorization and make sure every setting matches this list. These control whether sessions are billed properly, so they're worth the minute it takes:

  • Free Charging: Off
  • If in doubt allow charging: Off
  • Vehicle connection timeout: 180
  • Send Authorize for RemoteStart: On
  • RFID Tag letter case: Uppercase
  • Enable local whitelist: Off
  • Local whitelist learning mode: Off
  • Enable OCPP Whitelist: On

The first two are the ones that matter most: with free charging on, or "if in doubt allow charging" on, the charger can hand out electricity without a paid session.

7Restart and wait

Restart the charge point when prompted, then give it a full 5 minutes before judging anything. The Live takes its time coming back up.

How you know it worked

After those 5 minutes, the charger shows as connected in your GuestCharge dashboard.

If it won't connect

  • Check the Wi-Fi details in the Network section, the usual culprit
  • Check the ChargeBoxIdentity is numbers only and matches the wizard entry
  • Re-check the URL character by character
