Sync EV chargers are set up entirely from your phone with the free BG EV Charging app. No web pages, no laptops. The whole job is pairing over Bluetooth, typing in two settings, and waiting for the light on the charger to change colour.

Before you start, check you have

  • A phone with Bluetooth
  • The BG EV Charging app (free on the App Store and Google Play)
  • Your Wi-Fi name and password (or a LAN cable or SIM, if that's how the charger gets online)
  • The label on the back of the unit
  • About 20 minutes, including the charger's reboot

1Add the charger in your GuestCharge dashboard

Log in to your GuestCharge dashboard and run the onboarding wizard. It will ask for the charger's serial number, which is on the label on the unit. With that done, our server is expecting your charger and the rest happens on the phone.

2Power on and open the app

Turn the charger on. The light on the front glows yellow. Open the BG EV Charging app.

3Pair over Bluetooth

The label on the back of the unit has pairing instructions. Select the charge point in the app and log in with the default password: 12345678.

The app will then ask you to set a new password. Do it, and write the new one down somewhere you'll find it again. You'll need it for any future changes.

4Get the charger online and point it at GuestCharge

In the app:

  • Choose your connection type: Wi-Fi, LAN or 4G. Type the details carefully, they're case sensitive.

  • Scroll down to Server URL and choose Manual Entry

  • Enter: wss://ocpp.guestcharge.co/YOUR-SERIAL-NUMBER, replacing YOUR-SERIAL-NUMBER with the serial from the unit's label

  • Set Charge mode to APP from the dropdown

  • Tap Set

5Wait for the reboot

The charger restarts itself. This genuinely takes a while, usually 5 to 10 minutes, so put the kettle on. If everything is right, the light goes from steady yellow to steady blue. Blue means it's talking to GuestCharge.

While you're waiting, the other colours worth knowing: flashing blue means preparing, green means charging, red means a fault.

How you know it worked

Steady blue light on the unit, and the charger shows as connected in your dashboard.

If the light stays yellow

  • The charger hasn't reached our server. Nine times out of ten this is a typo in the Wi-Fi password or the server URL. Pair again with the app and check both.
  • Weak Wi-Fi at the charger's location is the next suspect. If the signal barely reaches, the charger may connect and drop repeatedly.
